PM Narendra Modi To Launch Hyderabad Metro Rail On November 28
Hyderabad: Accepting the Telangana government's request, Prime Minister Narendra Modi confirmed that he will inaugurate the first phase of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project on November 28. A message to this effect was conveyed to the Telangana Chief Minister's office (CMO) on Saturday and a formal letter from the Prime Minister's Office intimating the same will be delivered on Monday, according to official sources.
The PMO confirmed the appointment after receiving a report from the Union Urban Development Ministry. A team of officials had inspected the project in Hyderabad and gave the green signal for the inauguration by the PM.
The PMO, in turn, has okayed the metro rail inauguration by the PM. An official communication to this effect will reach the state government on Monday. On September 6, CM KCR wrote a letter to PM requesting him to launch the prestigious public transport system project in Hyderabad. Costing about Rs15,000 crore, the mass transport system is one of the biggest public-private partnership project in the country.
Modi will inaugurate a 30km stretch of the metro rail project from Nagole to Miyapur on November 28. While 17km of this will be from Nagole to Ameerpet on Corridor III, the remaining 13km will be from Ameerpet to Miyapur on Corridor I. This 30-km metro rail stretch covers one of the most congested arterial roads of Hyderabad.
The Hyderabad Metro Rail project is being constructed by L&T on a 72-km stretch encompassing three corridors spread across the city.
Metro rail sources said the stretch to be inaugurated by the PM has received safety permissions from the authorities concerned. "The Union urban development ministry team which inspected the route has expressed satisfaction over the completion of the first phase. The trial run results were also submitted to the ministry," they said.
The PM will also inaugurate the Global Entrepreneurship Summit slated to be held in Hyderabad from November 28 to 31. Several Union Ministers will participate in the summit.
