PK @ Harvard: My Brother’s Admonition Transformed My Life
Hyderabad: Janasena party chief, hero Pawan Kalyan has said it was his brother's admonition that made him what he is today. Addressing students and academics at the 14th edition of the India Conference at Harvard University, one of the largest student-run conferences with a focus on India in the US on Sunday.
"I would bunk school most of the time; sitting at home, I was thinking about society and the happenings around me. There used to be lot of inconsistencies in the society; despite being an employee in police department he was a communist, again, he was a strong follower of spiritual leaders such as Swami Vivekananda and Ramakrishna Paramahansa. I was trying hard to understand these contradictions. Then one, when I spoke the reality of our school, the poor conditions, my teacher gave a beating of my life. I grew up in a confused state. Especially, one situation that moved me very much was when my sister came home crying, escaped from a thug who harassed her on the road and none of the onlookers came to her rescue.
All these confusions and contradictions forced me to think of committing suicide and I was about to write my suicide note. Then, my brother Chiranjeevi, who would come home fully exhausted after busy day's work as he was a popular actor at the time, noticed my situation and advised me to keep myself busy with some activity and suggested me to try acting.
As I was a very shy person, I thought I could not do that. But, somehow, I became a successful actor and wanted to express my feelings for society through my acting. I failed in that. There are certain limitations for an actor to show his real feelings for society. And that's where I got the idea of politics and now I can do what all I wanted to do for the society," Pawan Kalyan told the gathering to a huge applause.
Opening his address, Pawan Kalyan admitted that he had some difficulty speaking at the world's top university as he himself had studied at a street school and dropped out of high school.
The conference is hosted at the Harvard Business School and Harvard Kennedy School by the graduate students of Harvard University. The event brings together business leaders, entertainment professionals, and many other leaders to engage in a conversation about India’s path to global leadership. Pawan Kalyan and R. Madhavan were among the speakers at the conference.
