Patient Drags Himself To Gandhi Hospital On Toy Bike As Staff Demand Bribe For Wheelchair
Hyderabad: A poor patient dragged himself on a toy bike to Gandhi hospital on Friday as the staff were demanding bribe to give him a wheel chair every time he visited for treatment.
Raju, a resident of Begumpet, sustained injuries to both of his legs in an accident some time back and lost his livelihood ever since. He was undergoing treatment at Gandhi hospital, but every time he visited, the staff were demanding Rs100 for giving him a wheel chair to move around within the hospital premises.
"I lost my job due to the accident; not even able to buy essential requirments for the family or myself. How can I pay Rs100 everytime for the wheel chair. I carried my son's toy bike to hospital to use for moving within the hospital," he told the crowds who looked at him with utter confusion.

Raju's wife who accompanied him pulled and pushed the toy bike to move him around the wards.
It may be recalled that a patient died at government chest hospital in Erragadda this week for not administering oxygen as his family could not shell out bribe to the staff. Despite government's repeated claims about improvement at hospitals, rampant corruption at government hospitals seems to be deep-rooted and refusing to go.
