Panchayat polls across AP districts: Live updates

As many as 7,038 offices of sarpanchs (village heads) went to the polls during the second phase of Gram Panchayat elections in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday. A total of  2,892 candidates are in the fray for the sarpanch posts.

Nalgonda:  A woman died of heart attack in the district. It is learnt that the woman was casting her vote at Gudigoda of Kodada when she suffered a cardiac arrest.
In another incident, a senior woman died at Patarlapadu of Atmakuru.

East Godavari: Stamps and Registration Minister Thota Narasimham went inside the polling centre along with supporters in Kakinada. It is learnt that YSRCP supporters obstructed while he was trying to influence voters. The minister, however, threatened the YSRCP supporters with expletives. The police, who was very much present on the scene refused to take any action.
Later, YSRCP leader Jyotula Nehru brought this to the notice of the Election Commissioner requesting him to take action. It is learnt that the Congress minister was taking special interest in wooing the voters at the polling booth as his wife is contesting for the post of Sarpanch.

Medak: Polling in several parts of the district were forced to conduct polls in the open due to  the lack of rooms.
A youth tore the ballet paper in Chityala. Police has taken the the youth into custody.

Khammam: Voters beat up an official on election duty for not folding the ballet paper properly at Pattipadu of Konijarlu mandal. The election official was rushed to Khammam government hospital. Voting has been temporarily stopped in the region.
A person who had come to cast his vote at Vengalpadu of Tallada mandal suddenly collapse. He died when he was being rushed to hospital.

Kakinada: Only one woman constable on duty at the Timmapur poling centre. Congress leaders are reportedly creating a ruckus at the poling centre

Krishna district: A woman died while casting her vote at Vayyuru of Tatlavalluru on Saturday morning. The polling has been put off by 30 mins in the area.

Guntur: Tension prevailed in several parts of Guntur. There was a rift when YSRCP activists obstructed Congress men from allowing illegal voting. Police interrupted them and brought the situation under control.
Similar incidents were witnessed at Dammalapadu of Muppala mandal.

A minor clash broke out as a polling agent allegedly insisted on voters to show him the ballot while casting their vote at Bhimavaram village  Police had to resort to a lathicharge to disperse the clashing villagers.

Viziangaram: Police resorted to lathicharge on the voters at Dukkada village of Viziangaram mandal. It is learnt that the police resorted to extreme step after seeing that the voters had formed a group at the poling centre. Locals at the centre protested police action.

While Vizianagaram recorded highest voter turnout with 40.2 %, Srikakulam saw lowest turnout with 21%.

About  67.1 per cent of polling was reported till 12 AM in the second phase of elections to gram panchayats

Nizamabad: Medikonduru ST Colony people did not come to vote demanding readressal of grievances

Kurnool district:  Banaganapalli Congress MLA Katasani Rami Reddy and former MLA Challa Ramakrishna Reddy were placed under house arrest as a precautionary measure to prevent faction fights.

The polling for second phase of Panchayat Polls ended at 1 pm. Counting begins at 2 pm.

Ananthapuram: counting of votes is yet to begin at Belaguppa in Ananthapuram. Election officials have not began the counting as they are still waiting for their lunch to arrive. Counting should have started at 2 pm itself. Same is the situation in several places of Chittoor district.
