Panchayat Member Rapes Minor in Bihar’s Kaimur
The safety of a girl child continues to be a concern in Bihar where the rate of crime has hit its peak. In a tragic turn of events, a nine-year-old was gangraped by four men, including a member from the Panchayat.
The incident that occured in Bihar's Kaimur district came to light on Monday.
It is learned that the victim identified the Panchayat member as one of the culprits who carried out the act on Saturday. The accused have been arrested and sent to jail in Patna. The victim's father filed a complaint at the Bhabua women's police station.
The father said that the girl was in the fields grazing pigs when she was forcefully dragged by the Panchayat member accompanied by three other men. This is the fourth rape reported in the region over the last two months. According to a 2007 study, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi and Assam have reported the highest sexual abuse. Around 8800 cases of rape on children were registered across the country under the stringent Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences (POCSO) act, according to a data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
