Over Rs.1 lakh crore maiden budget for Telangana

The Telangana Government's maiden budget proposed an expenditure of Rs 1,00,637 crore for the financial year 2014-15. Of this, the total plan expenditure is Rs.48,648 crore and non-plan outlay is Rs.51,989 crore.

Presenting a tax-free budget with revenue deficit of Rs.17,398 crore.

Finance Minister Etela Rajender said he was feeling proud to present the first budget of Telangana state. He claimed that the budget is in tune with the government's dream of 'golden Telangana'.
However, there were no concrete proposals on tackling power crisis and the farmers' suicides, making the opposition parties criticise the budget as one with 'insufficient allocations and improper planning.'
However, finance minister said despite a plethora of daunting challenges, his government would accord top priority to welfare, agriculture and employment generation.
Symbolism dominated the budget proposals as the finance minister announced an allocation of Rs.100 crore towards financial assistance for the families of people who laid down their lives for the separate state. The government has identified families of 459 martyrs who will get Rs.10 lakh each.

"We will ensure that every paisa is put to proper use. We conducted the integrated household survey to ensure that there is no misuse of funds. We have devised several schemes to this end," said Etela Rajender.
