OU Campus To Be Roasted For Beef And Pork Festivals

In 2015 OU witnessed unrest as some student groups conducted beef festival, in spite of heavy police bandobust - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad: The ‘beef fest’ controversy has hit Osmania University yet again as students' organizations for and against cattle slaughter will hold simultaneous beef and pork festival on June 30.

The left wing organisations have planned for beef festival, while the right wing student organizations will conduct pork festival on the same day. The decision has been taken in the wake of Union government's ban on sale and purchase of cattle for slaughter. Student organizations held a meeting on Wednesday and chalked out an action plan. Students of both the wings also plan to conduct protests rallies on June 4 and 18, with the support of like-minded political parties.

If eating beef can be celebrated in the name of secularism and right to eat any food, then why not celebrate pork festival

"We will be conducting pork festival on the same day as beef festival. If eating beef can be celebrated in the name of secularism and right to eat any food, then why not celebrate pork festival. We will invite those participating in beef festival to pork festival. They should have no problem with it," said Solanki Srinivas.

However, OU Registrar Prof CH Gopal Reddy said that so far no one has taken permission from the management to conduct the festival. It may be recalled that, in 2015 OU witnessed unrest as some student groups conducted beef festival, in spite of heavy police bandobust.
