OU Bans Political Meetings On Campus, Gets Social Media Backlash

OU administration issued the notice on Wednesday - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad: The Osmania University administration has banned political events and public meetings on the campus with immediate effect from Wednesday. The administration issued a notice in this regard in the evening.

The notice stated that all students, researchers, teaching and non-teaching shall not be allowed to participate in activities unrelated to academics on the campus. "The University was established for the purpose of imparting higher education and conducting research in various disciplines. Primary objective of the University is purely academic and research-oriented. It is, therefore informed to all concerned, including teachers, students, and the staff that activities which are unrelated to academics are not permitted on the campus," the press release said.

However, the student community reacted fiercely on the ban. Soon after the ban was notified, students community stormed social media with allegations that it was not the university but the chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao who took the decision. When there were no rules during Telangana movement, then what is the need to bring the new rules, they questioned.

"The decision has arisen from Chief Minister's insecurity who is in fear of an agitation by the unemployed which may create trouble for him," a student representative from OU said.

However, the seniors in the campus said that even the Congress has a plan to organize a rally on unemployment with the help of OU students.
