Uruguay gave Russia a reality check in the FIFA Football World Cup, thrashing the host nation 3-0.

Suarez opened the account for Uruguay with a free kick in the tenth minute. As Russia tried desperately to get back into the game, luck conspired against them in the 26th minute in the form of an own goal by their star, Cheryshev. To make matters worse, Smolnikov earned his second yellow card in the 36th minute, cutting Russia down to ten men.

The scoreline at halftime read 2-0, as the host nation’s team kept groping for an opportunity to get on to the scoreboard. Just as the match was beginning to enter stoppage time, Cavani converted a rebound from the goalkeeper on a corner kick to take the scoreline to 3-0.
