Only 541 takers for the new online medical Eamcet

Hyderabad: A total of 541 students have opted for online medical Eamcet test against the one lakh students who opted for offline mode. With such low number of takers for online mode, the Eamcet-2016 organisers are hesitating to conduct entrance test in two centres __ Hyderabad and Warangal.
TSCHE (Telangana State Council for Higher Education) chairman Prof. Papi Reddy said that as only 53 candidates have registered for online test in Warangal, “It looks like one centre is more than enough. JNTU-Hyderabad is likely to be chosen as the online centre. We will clarify this matter at the earliest,”he said.
It was initially announced that online mode of exam for medical aspirants would be conducted on first cum-first-serve basis. Online edit option was activated for nearly ten days from April 4 to 13. However, there were very few takers.
Papi Reddy stated that students are not willing to take up online mode as it is new to them and to even the organisers. “Although the paper for offline and online exams as well as the test timings are the same, students were reluctant,” he said.
He stated that it is important to emphasis more on computer, internet and technology usage to make students specially the one from rural areas confident. “Online exams will be the order of the day in the near future. It may take time for people to get used to the new technology. It will get more acceptance with each year,” he added.
