Onion Dosas disappear from Guntur eateries

Onion Dosas disappear from Guntur eateries - Sakshi Post

Spiraling onion prices have forced most hoteliers in Guntur to stop serving onion dosas. They are telling the customers point blank that they cannot make onion dosas in view of the sky-rocketing prices of onions.

According to sources in the hospitality industry in Guntur, at least 20 quintals of onions are daily used and onion-based recipes earn up to Rs 40 lakh a day.

With the prices going up to Rs 70 a kg, the hoteliers find onion-based recipes no longer remunerative. Though the Rythu Bazaars are supplying onion at Rs 20 a kg, the supply is inadequate and cannot even address the needs of domestic users.

“At the present rate, we need to double the rate if we have to serve an onion dosa. The customers would feel the pinch. Hence, we have decided not to supply onion dosas,” said a prominent hotelier.
