One student dies, 10 injured in Chittoor school building collapse

Chitoor: One student died and 10 others sustained serious injuries when a private school building at Gurramkonda village in Chittoor district collapsed while the students were having mid-day-meals on Wednesday.

A girl student 'Harsha' died on the spot and the injured pupils were rushed to the nearest hospital in Madanapalle by private vehicles.

The accident took place when the ceiling of the private primary school building collapsed.

The collapsed school building, constructed nearly hundred years ago, was shaky due to the recent downpours. It’s alleged that negligence on the part of Education Department could have caused the accident.
Sub inspector of police who is investigating the accident proposed stringent punishment for the school authorities who are at large.
