Odisha assembly rocked by Polavaram
Polavaram project, a multi purpose irrigation project and dream project of late Y S Rajashekar Reddy faced opposition in Odisha assembly on Monday. The project which was accorded a national project status by central government would submerge several villages in Odisha.
Within minutes after commencement of Odisha assembly, members of ruling BJD stalled the assembly by raising solgans and showing placards against green signal given by the union government for the project. Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA's said that the Odisa government fears that the project will submerge parts of Malkangiri district in Odisha.
Due to this, the house was adjourned until 3 p.m."Since parliament session is beginning today, we raised the issues to attract the attention of the union government. We have no intention to disrupt the house," BJD spokesman Sameer Dash told the media.
The opposition in Odisha alleged that the ruling party was trying to divert the interests of assembly so that the debate on Sharada chit fund case would be side-tracked.
