NV Ramana: From Ponnavaram to Apex Court
Chief Justices of the Madras and Delhi High Courts, Rajesh Kumar Agrawal and Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana, have been elevated as the judges of the Supreme Court of India.
The collegium of the apex court headed by Chief Justice of India P.Sathasivam has recommended the elevation of both the judges. The 56 year old Ramana hails from Andhra Pradesh. He was born in an agricultural family on 27 August, 1957 at Ponnavaram village in Krishna district.
After completing his B.Sc and B.L, he was enrolled as an advocate in 1983. He practiced at the High Court of Andhra Pradesh, Central and Andhra Pradesh Administrative Tribunals and the Supreme Courts of India in Civil, Criminal, Constitutional, Labour, Service and Election matters. He is known for specializing on Criminal, Constitutional, Inter state river laws among other key subjects. He worked as Additional Advocate General of Andhra Pradesh.
He was the Acting Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court from 10 March, 2013 to 20 May, 2013. He was elevated as the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court on 2 September, 2013. He will have a tenure of about nine years in Supreme Court.
