Hyderabad: An NRI abandoned his pregnant wife and his eight-month-old son at the airport after they arrived at Shamshabad Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here on Thursday.

Kirthi Sai Reddy, a mechanical engineer working in Virginia, US, while his wife Sirisha is a BTech graduate, got married in April 2015.

Sirisha and the child were ignored by Reddy's family who came to the airport to receive him. Her husband left her in the lurch and went with his mother Vanitha to their house at Ramanthapur.

As Sirisha was not having a mobile phone or cash with her she approached Assistant Sub-Inspector Dhan Singh for help who arranged a cab for her to reach her parents' home in Vanasthalipuram.

Sirisha’s statement was not recorded as she was in the US then. The case was then registered based on a complaint lodged by her mother. Now that Kirthi Reddy is in Hyderabad, we will take action

Then Sirisha approached the Women’s Commission through an NGO the next day seeking justice.

Narrating her ordeal, she said that after two months of their marriage her husband and in-laws started harassing her. They also suspected her fidelity and conducted a DNA test on the child to ascertain whether Reddy was his real father.

Following complaint from the daughter, Sirisha's parents lodged a case at the Vanasthalipuram police station against Vanitha and Kirthi Sai Reddy in January.

"Sirisha's statement was not recorded as she was in the US then. The case was then registered based on a complaint lodged by her mother. Now that Kirthi Reddy is in Hyderabad, we will take action," said Murali Krishna, Vanasthalipuram inspector.
