No Increase In Assembly Seats: Centre

New Delhi: The Union Government on Wednesday clarified that there would be no increase in the number of assembly seats in any state in the near future.

In a reply to a question by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) member TG Venkatesh, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said that according to article 170 (3) of the Constitution, It is not possible to increase assembly seats in the country until 2026 census.

This reply is sure to prove to be a dampener for many leaders in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, who joined ruling parties in the hope of getting plum posts. the Government's reply has put paid to the hopes of all these turncoats.
