Nitaqat: Save Telugu people, Vijayamma to Kiran Reddy
Expressing concern over the fate of Telugu people after Saudi Arabia implemented the controversial labour law Nitaqat, YSR Congress Party honorary president YS Vijayamma on Friday requested Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy to help them.
She wrote a letter to the chief minister regarding this. In the letter, she mentioned that as many as 6 lakh people will turn jobless because of 'Nitaqat'. Of them, 1,50,000 workers were from Andhra Pradesh, she said. Vijayamma said in her letter that it was our responsibility to save them.
Vijayamma had also written a letter to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in this regard on May 17, she mentioned in her letter. She asked the Centre and state governments to take steps in the interests of Telugu people in Saudi Arabia who were hit by the new law. (Also Read)
She demanded that the CM bring back Telugu people stuck in Arab countries. Vijayamma also requested him to create a security deposit for Gulf victims. In the letter, the YSRCP honorary president also requested the government to provide jobs to those who lost their jobs in the Gulf.
It's worth mentioning here that Saudi Arabia has revamped its labour law by introducing 'Nitaqat'. According to the new law, foreign workers must be regularised and also requires that local companies hire at least one Saudi national for every 10 migrant workers. With this, a number of people who were working without valid work permits have come under the scanner. Once the grace period (till July 3) ends, expatriates without valid papers in Saudi Arabia will be imprisoned and penalised.
