Nikhil Reddy Is Now Able To Walk On His Own; Video Goes Viral
Hyderabad: A video showing Nikhil Reddy, who underwent a surgery to increase his height, walking without the help of a walker has gone viral after he shared it on social media on Tuesday. He had told a committee of orthopaedic doctors, on November 19 that he was not able to take even a few steps and was in great pain. Nikhil’s father had filed a complaint before the Telangana State Medical Council against Dr Chandra Bhushan who had performed the surgery which left the techie unable to even walk seven months after the surgery. The council had suspended the doctor earlier this month. The techie said that he was able to walk due to the advice of his new doctors.
However, doubts are being raised by doctors this time. A senior orthopaedic surgeon said, "He refused to walk when Dr Chandra Bhushan had initiated the physiotherapy programme two months ago. At that time there were continuous complaints that he couldn't walk. Same situation existed 10 days ago. Now how can he take so many steps without a walker?"
The committee of ortho-paedic specialists — Dr VS Reddy, Dr VBN Prasad, Dr B. Babu and Dr Ravindrananth and medical superintendent of Global Hospitals, Dr Ananth Mohan Pai — was set up to monitor Nikhil's condition. The group of doctors examined him twice. During the second visit, the doctors told him to take only a few steps every two hours but with a walker so that the practice of walking can be initiated. He was told to sit for longer hours and carry out desktop work to ensure that there is proper initiation of lower back and leg muscles.
The video of his walking has angered some orthopaedic surgeons and other doctors. They say the patient was not co-operative and purposely delayed the process of walking till the council took action against Dr Bhushan.
