Andhra Pradesh High Court has appointed Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra as the new Chief Justice, it is being said. It is learned that the Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana is said to have recommended his name to the Centre.

It is learned that the collegium met recently and came to a decision on the transfer of CJs and judges of various high courts. According to credible sources, Andhra Pradesh High Court CJ Justice Arup Kumar Goswami will be transferred to Chhattisgarh High Court and Chhattisgarh High Court interim CJ Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra will be transferred to AP High Court.

Also, eight judges have been promoted as Chief Justices. The collegium is said to have recommended to the Centre to transfer five current Chief Justices and 28 judges. Speculation is also rife that two more judges are coming to AP. The recommendations of the collegium are to be formally embedded in the website.

Who is Andhra Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra?

Justice Mishra was born on August 29, 1964 in Raigad, Chhattisgarh. He holds BSc and LLB degrees from Guru Ghasidas University, Bilaspur. He registered as a lawyer on September 4, 1987 and practiced in the District Court in Raigad, the Madhya Pradesh High Court in Jabalpur and the Chhattisgarh High Court in Bilaspur.

He is known to be an expert in handling civil and criminal cases. Prashant Kumar Mishra served as the Chairman of the Chhattisgarh Bar Council. He served as the state's Additional Advocate General from June 26, 2004 to August 31, 2007. He then served as Advocate General from September 1, 2007 until he became a judge. He was appointed Judge of Chhattisgarh on December 10, 2009.
