Telangana: PM Modi to Lay Foundation Stone for Kazipet Rly Manufacturing Unit on Friday
Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for several road and rail infrastructure development projects during his Telangana visit on Friday.
PM Modi is scheduled to reach Warangal at 10.45 am tomorrow. He will address a public programme and will lay the foundation stone of various projects worth around Rs 6,100 crores.
Among the proposed projects include national highway projects worth over Rs 5,550 crore and work to upgrade the 68-km-long Karimnagar--Warangal section of NH-563 from existing two lanes to a four-lane configuration.
Later, the prime minister will also lay the foundation stone of the ‘Railway Manufacturing Unit’ in Kazipet. This project is considered as the prestigious project both for the Railways and the people of Telangana.
According to Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, South Central Railway (SCR), this is the first Indian railway manufacturing unit being set up in Telangana. Giving details, he said the manufacturing unit will drive the eco-system of new industrial development in Hanamkonda region.
Earlier, the government sanctioned a Wagon Repair Workshop at Kazipet and the project was entrusted to Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL). In keeping up with the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, the Wagon Repair Workshop is being upgraded to a ‘Railway Manufacturing Unit’ with an estimated cost of Rs 521 crores approximately.

Initially, the Railway Manufacturing Unit will attempt to manufacture 1,200 wagons per year and from second year onwards, the capacity will be doubled, Jain added. From Warangal, PM Modi will travel to Bikaner in Rajasthan where he will dedicate and lay the foundation stone of development projects worth over Rs 24,300 crore.
