Sankranthi Rush: Special Measures to Ease Traffic Woes on Hyderabad-Vijayawada Hwy
Yadadri Bhuvanagiri: On the occasion of Sankranthi festival, people in large numbers are returning to their native villages from cities. This has led to increased vehicular traffic on highways and it resulted in huge traffic snarls and congestion at several toll booths. The staff at the toll gates are taking special measures to ensure smooth passage of vehicles through the toll plazas.
As Sankranthi is a major festival in both the Telugu states, the vehicular traffic on National Highway 65 connecting Hyderabad and Vijayawada has increased this year too. Anticipating a surge in the number of vehicles on the road, special arrangements have been made at toll plazas in Panthangi, Korlapahad and Madgulapalli to ensure smooth flow of vehicles. Additional toll booths have also been set up by the highway authorities and extra staff deployed. These measures have helped ease the traffic to some extent.
Similarly, the Vijayawada bus stand has witnessed a sharp rise in passenger arrivals who were seen jostling for the buses and available seats in them. The passenger shelters in the bus stand are overflowing with travelers from Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and other cities. Meanwhile, APSRTC has made arrangements by operating special buses to meet the extra rush of passengers.
