KCR To Be Opposition Leader in Telangana Assembly
The BRS legislatures have unanimously elected KCR as their leader in the Assembly. While former Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy proposed KCR as the BRS Legislature Party leader, it was unanimously accepted by the fellow BRS MLAs including former ministers Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Kadiam Srihari, KT Ramarao, Harish Rao and others.
With this, KCR is going to play a key role as the Opposition leader in the Third Legislative Assembly of Telangana. He was the leader of the house and the CM for the first and second Legislative Assembly. KCR becoming Leader of Opposition (LoP) is seen as a crucial political move of the BRS ahead of the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls. Even though there were reports and speculations that KTR or Harish Rao would be the Opposition Leader, BRS MLAs have unanimously elected KCR as their leader.
It can be noted that Congress won 64 MLAs whereas BRS was confined to 39 MLAs in the recently held Assembly elections. This resulted in BRS losing the power to the Congress. Revanth Reddy became the second Chief Minister of Telangana. Bhatti Vikramarka is the Deputy CM. Akbaruddin Owaisi of MIM acted as the Protem Speaker of the Third Legislative Assembly. Gaddam Prasad Kumar is the new Speaker of the Third Legislative Assembly.
Meanwhile, KCR unfortunately fell and injured himself. He underwent hip replacement surgery and is taking bed rest.
