Ganesh Nimajjanam 2024: How to perform Nimajjanam at home?
Ganesh Chaturthi, a spirited festival dedicated to Lord Ganesha, began on September 7 and will top with Ganesh Nimajjanam on September 17, coinciding with Anant Chaturdashi or Anant Chaudas. The festival is marked by a ten-day celebration, culminating in the immersion of Lord Ganesha's idol.
While many devotees traditionally perform the immersion at water bodies such as lakes or rivers, others may choose to conduct the Visarjan ceremony at home, especially if they are concerned about environmental impact or lack proximity to water bodies.
To celebrate Ganesh Visarjan at home, families should first come together to perform Ganesh Puja, offering fruits, laddu, and modak to Lord Ganesha and preparing the 56 bhogs (chappan bhog). Following the puja, an aarti of Ganpati Bappa's idol should be conducted. Then, fill a large container with clean water and add Gangajal. During the immersion ceremony, recite prayers and mantras dedicated to Lord Ganesha. Carefully place the idol into the water while chanting "Ganpati Bappa Morya Mangal Murti Morya."
After the immersion, the water should be collected and either stored in a container or poured beneath a peepal tree. The puja ingredients should be placed inside the idol before submerging it. This method allows devotees to honour Lord Ganesha's departure while maintaining respect for both tradition and the environment.
