HYDERABAD: On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao wished people of Telangana on the auspicious day.

The CM, in a message on the eve of Eid here on Sunday, hoped that the sacred Ramzan month will usher in happiness among the people, a daily reported.

He also appealed to people to celebrate Ramzan indoors, and said the festival reflects communal harmony and religious tolerance besides displaying the great Ganga-Jamuna tahzeeb of Telangana State.

Eid marks the culmination of the fasting of the holy month of Ramzan. The festival this year will be celebrated in the country on May 25 as the moon could not be sighted on Saturday, Shahi Imam of Delhi’s Jama Masjid Ahmed Shah Bukhari said.

In Jammu and Kashmir and Kerala, Eid is marked on Sunday, May 24.

Amid the COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent lockdown, Bukhari also appealed to people to offer Eid namaz at their homes.

This will be perhaps the first time that there will no mass namaz at mosques and idgahs across the country as the government has prohibited all kinds of religious gatherings to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Eid-ul-Fitr symbolises peace and brotherhood. The festival is marked with feasts and the faithful offers prayers at mosques and idgahs to seek blessings of the divine. People, especially children dress up in their traditional fineries to mark the festival.
