Centre Rejects Telangana Govt's Paddy Procurement Demands
The centre has turned down Telangana's demand for procurement of Paddy from farmers. During the meeting with a delegation of state ministers led by Irrigation Minister S. Niranjan Reddy in Delhi last night, Union Minister for food and public distribution Piyush Goel said that the centre is not ready to procure parboiled rice from Telangana in the coming Rabi season and didn't give any assurance to the government on the enhancement of Paddy procurement in the Kharif Season.
Piyush Goel told the ministers to advise farmers not to cultivate paddy in the coming rabi season. Agriculture Minister Niranjan Reddy said that Piyush Goel would inform the BJP leaders of the state not to give any statements on Paddy. He further stated that the ministers were not happy with the comments made by the Union Minister and said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may constitute a committee on agriculture issues in the wake of the repeal of three new farm laws.
The final decision on the quantity of paddy to be procured will be announced on November 26.
It is all known knowledge that TRS leaders had staged a dharna in Hyderabad demanding the centre to procure paddy from the state.
Now, with the latest decision from the centre, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is likely to hold a cabinet meeting in a day or two to sketch a future course of action.
