India’s Software Export Rankings: Bengaluru on Top, Hyderabad in Pursuit
Bengaluru has once again solidified its position as India’s leading hub for software exports, recording an extraordinary figure of Rs 4,07,088.72 crore for the financial year 2023-24, according to data from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The city’s dominance in the IT sector remains unparalleled, reinforcing its global reputation as India’s "Silicon Valley."
Trailing behind Bengaluru is Hyderabad, which reported software exports of Rs 1,21,115.57 crore. Although it ranks second, the gap between the two cities is substantial. Pune secured third place with Rs 1,05,818.98 crore in software exports, followed by Chennai with Rs 77,421.44 crore. Mumbai and Gurugram claimed the fifth and sixth spots, recording Rs 76,564.55 crore and Rs 52,931.70 crore, respectively.
Notably, Andhra Pradesh’s presence in the software export sector was minimal, with Visakhapatnam’s (Vizag) contributions remaining insignificant despite some ongoing software-related activities in the region. This absence highlights the disparity in IT sector development across the country’s regions.
Other cities are also making efforts to establish themselves as prominent players in the software export arena. Noida’s exports amounted to Rs 50,119.10 crore, while Kolkata reported Rs 13,029.69 crore. Gandhinagar contributed Rs 8,636.92 crore, and Thiruvananthapuram’s total stood at Rs 5,315.81 crore. While these cities are striving to carve a niche for themselves, Bengaluru's supremacy remains unchallenged, setting a high bar for competitors in the IT landscape.
