IPL 2022 Venue Update
The IPL 2022 season is expected to begin on March 27, and the BCCI has confirmed the venues for the 15th season of the cash-rich tournament. Four venues were identified at a meeting involving BCCI officials, the IPL governing council, and team owners. The IPL 2022 season will feature a 10-team field and up to 74 matches.
Wankhede, Brabourne, and DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, as well as Pune, were selected as potential locations. According to preliminary conversations, the BCCI intends to conduct the tournament in Maharashtra, with the opening game taking place in Mumbai. But, considering its closeness to Mumbai, Pune also entered the picture.
As the Covid cases are increasing in Mumbai, the BCCI has retained South Africa as a potential alternative. After monitoring the situation in Mumbai, the franchisees will be given a final judgment on the locations by February 20.

The prospect of hosting the IPL 2022 in the UAE was also explored in the discussion. In order to reduce total expenses, franchise owners selected the UAE over South Africa. However, because of the influence of payments, the BCCI has ruled out the UAE as a viable alternative.
The UAE successfully hosted two consecutive IPL seasons in 2020 and 2021. The dew effect, on the other hand, had a significant impact on the outcome of the games. The same thing happened with the T20 World Cup, which was held in the UAE.
