Indian Archer Deepika Kumari's World Cup Gold Makes Her World's No.1
Indian archer Deepika Kumari is now the top player in the women archers ranking. She has bagged the first position, after winning three gold medals in World Cup Stage 3 in Paris. She has won recurve women’s team, recurve mixed team and women’s individual recurve events.
The news of her becoming a No.1 player was confirmed by World Archery’s official Twitter account. “This is going to take Deepika to the number one spot in the world rankings on Monday,” it said.
On June 27, Deepika won against Russia’s Elena Osipova. The score was 6-0, giving her a legendary victory and third gold medal. The archer was delighted but also said that she will have to continue performing like this. “I'm happy, but at the same time, I have to continue my performance like this I want to improve that because the upcoming tournament (Tokyo Olympics) is very, very important to us. I'm trying my best to continue learning whatever I can,” she said.

Along with women’s individual recurve event, she also won the mixed finals with her husband Atanu Das. The duo beat Netherland’s Sjef van den Berg and Gabriella Schlosser and won by a 5-3 score. It started with a lead for the other team as they manage to score 2 points. But the Indian duo managed to end the event with 5-3.
Das told a leading daily that, “It feels amazing. The first time we won the final together, it feels so happy. It feels we are made for each other. But in the ground, we are not a couple but like just other competitors, we motivate, support and back each other.”
Deepika also won the medal in Recurve Women’s Team event along with Ankita Bhakat and Komalika Bari. The archer shared that this was a good start leading to the Tokyo Olympics as she will be representing India there.
