Djokovic Evades Questions on Australian Open After Losing to Zverev in ATP Finals

 - Sakshi Post

Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic kept quiet about his participation in the Australian Open after it was revealed that players are required to get vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to compete.

After losing in the ATP Finals, semi-final match against Alexander Zverev, Djokovic was asked if he will defend his title at the 2022 Australian Open. Djokovic declined to address the question, instead of telling reporters that he would "wait and see." Djokovic said that he has not spoken with the tournament's organisers and would simply have to wait and see what happens.

Earlier, Victoria's Premier, Daniel Andrews, stated that unvaccinated players will not be permitted to compete in the Australian Open as a precautionary measure, which is the correct course of action. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has said that unvaccinated players can compete in the Australian Open if they spend two weeks quarantined in a hotel.

Meanwhile, Alexander Zverev, who defeated Djokovic in the ATP Finals semi-finals 7-6 (7/4), 4-6, 6-3, stated that he would want to see Djokovic participate in the Australian Open. Zverev, on the other hand, supported the Australian government's move to require immunizations for players slated to compete in the event next year. Zverev stated that he agrees with the Australian government's decision and advised everyone to respect the laws and standards.
