West Bengal Minister Subrata Mukherjee Dies
West Bengal Minister Subrata Mukherjee passed away due to a massive cardiac arrest on Thursday evening at SSKM Hospital. He suffered a heart attack on Thursday evening and breathed his last at 9:22 PM. After Subrata complained of heart-related problems, he was admitted to SSKM Hospital last week. He had undergone angioplasty and was scheduled to be discharged from the hospital on Friday.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited the hospital on Thursday evening. Speaking to the media, she said that, "I have seen many disasters in my life. But the passing away of Subrata Mukherjee is the biggest disaster in my life. A person of his stature, who loved the party and people of his constituency, will not come again. After I returned from Goa, I had met him at the hospital. He told me that he wants to resume his visits to the districts. He suffered a massive cardiac arrest in the evening. Doctors did their best to revive him but were unsuccessful."
His body will be kept at Rabindra Sadan, a government-owned auditorium, on Friday for the people to pay their last respect. From there, it will be taken to his Ballygunge home and then to his ancestral home.
