Rain Update: December 28 – Chennai, Northern TN to Get Moderate Rains in 2-3 Days

 - Sakshi Post

The Meteorological Research Center has issued an alert regarding the formation of a new low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal within the next three days. This system is projected to develop over the central southern Bay of Bengal and is likely to move west-northwest toward the southern coast of Sri Lanka.

Coastal districts, regions near the Western Ghats, and parts of the northern districts can expect scattered rainfall on January 1 and 2 due to the low-pressure system. Dense fog is forecasted from January 3 to 8, particularly affecting hill stations like Kodaikanal and Ooty.

The northeast monsoon is expected to officially retreat from the state by January 10, marking the transition to a cooler season with chilly winds, occasional light drizzles, and mild sunshine during January and February.

The intense low-pressure system previously concentrated over the northern coastal districts has significantly weakened. However, isolated light drizzles are anticipated in parts of the state over the next six days.

In urban areas, overcast skies will prevail, with chances of moderate rainfall accompanied by occasional thunder and lightning in certain locations, meteorological officials noted.
