PR Kumaramangalam’s Wife Killed at Vasant Vihar Residence in Delhi

Kitty Kumaramangalam, the 68-year-old widow of former Union minister PR Kumaramangalam, was found murdered inside her home in Vasant Vihar, South Delhi, on Tuesday night, according to Delhi Police.

On Wednesday morning, Raju Lakhan, a 24-year-old suspect, was apprehended. Lakhan is a local washerman from Vasant Vihar's A block community, who had been visiting Kitty Kumaramangalam's house every day for the last five years, according to the police.

Lakhan had arrived at the house at 9 p.m. with two colleagues and kept her captive before entering Kitty Kumaramangalam's room, according to her domestic help, who told Delhi Police about the turn of events leading to her murder.

"In the meantime, his two associates entered and overpowered Kitty Kumaramangalam and smothered her with a pillow. Then the trio left. And the maid somehow untied herself and raised an alarm," said DCP (South West) Ingit Pratap Singh.

During Lakhan's arrest, police stated they corroborated the maid's story. Lakhan came to the residence every day about 9 p.m., according to the maid.

"We quickly formed teams and arrested Lakhan. He lives in the nearby Bhanwar Singh camp. He has disclosed the name of the other two. We are on the lookout for them."

DCP Singh stated that a bag of stolen clothing was seized from Lakhan.

"We are checking what was stolen from the house. The other two men also took two bags with them."

Kitty Kumaramangalam lived alone on the second storey. Her son in Bengaluru has been notified, according to the police.

Between 1998 and 2001, her husband, PR Kumaramangalam, served as a minister in the National Democratic Alliance administration.

Delhi has reported 196 killings between January 1 and June 15, 2021.
