New Delhi: Amid disagreement over who should inaugurate the new Parliament building, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will throw open the doors of the architectural marvel in the national capital on Sunday, May 28, 2023.
Despite several opposition parties' protest, PM Modi will lead the inauguration ceremony which is expected to be attended by several senior ministers and members of over two dozen political parties and religious leaders and is going to be witnessed by millions on their TVs and other electronic devices.
The inauguration ceremony will kick off with a havan and followed by a multi-faith prayers. Later, the formal inauguration of the new Parliament building by PM Modi will take place.
The inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament building will be broadcast live on Doordarshan and also on the official YouTube channel of the national broadcaster.
The new Parliament building is so spacious that it can accommodate 1,280 members during the joint session of Parliament. The old Lok Sabha could accommodate only 543 MPs. The old Parliament building was inaugurated on January 18, 1927 by the then Viceroy Lord Irwin. It is still not clear if the government will demolish the existing Parliament or conserve it as it is an archaeological asset for the country.
The new Parliament building will make every Indian proud. This video offers a glimpse of this iconic building. I have a special request- share this video with your own voice-over, which conveys your thoughts. I will re-Tweet some of them. Don’t forget to use #MyParliamentMyPride. pic.twitter.com/yEt4F38e8E
