Pakistan's Spy Pigeon Carrying 'Coded Message' Captured Near Border

SRINAGAR: A spy-pigeon which is suspected to be Pakistan-trained was was captured along the International Border (IB) here in Kathua district on Monday, officials said.

According to officials, the pigeon was captured by residents of Manyari village in Hiranagar sector soon after it flew into this side from Pakistan at about 7 pm on Sunday. Later they handed over the pigeon to the border police. It was also carrying a 'coded message'.

The pigeon, with a prominent pink patch and a tag on its leg, was logged as a "Pak Suspected Spy" by security forces, officials added.

Speaking to media, Senior Superintendent of Police of Kathua Shailendra Mishra said, "The villagers handed over the pigeon (to the local police station) yesterday. A ring was seen attached to one of its legs with some numbers on it and a probe is on."

He also added that they cannot say that the pigeon was used for spying as some people in Pakistan's Punjab, tie number tag with pigeons to claim ownership.

However, security agencies are investigating on the 'coded message', he said.

According to reports, the police made special arrangements to hang the cage above ground to keep the suspect safe.
