Hurriyat Leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani Passes Away At 91, Mufti Extends Condolences

Syed Ali Shah Geelani, the Hurriyat's leader, has passed away at the age of 91, and the Mufti has expressed his condolences.

Syed Ali Shah Geelani is the chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference in Jammu and Kashmir, a coalition of pro-separatist parties.

Srinagar: Syed Ali Shah Geelani, a Kashmiri separatist leader, passed away at his home in Srinagar. In June of last year, the senior leader resigned from the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (G), claiming that the merger was failing owing to its members' "mismanagement". Mehbooba Mufti, the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, has expressed her sorrow over his death.

Syed Ali Shah Geelani, a hardline separatist leader, passed away in Srinagar on Wednesday.

Tehreek-e-Hurriyat was founded by Geelani, who was 91 years old at the time of his demise. He was the head of the All Groups Hurriyat Conference in Jammu and Kashmir, which is made up of pro-separatist parties.

After the death of Syed Ali Geelani, restrictions were placed on the Kashmir valley, and the internet was suspended.

Vijay Kumar, the Kashmir Zone Inspector General of Police (IGP), said on Wednesday that the valley has been subjected to restrictions, including the suspension of internet services. This follows the death of Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani at his house in Srinagar. Geelani was reportedly buried this morning, according to sources.
