GST Collections in January 2025: 1.96 Lakh Crore at 12.3% YoY Growth!

 - Sakshi Post

GST collections in India have seen a great year-on-year growth for January 2025. The latest figures released on Saturday, February 1, show that the GST collections for January 2025 have touched ₹1.96 lakh crore.

This is up by 12.3% compared to the same period last year. Growth in GST collections is a good indicator of the general performance of the economy and suggests a strong expansion of economic activity.

The GST, introduced in 2017, is a comprehensive indirect tax levy on goods and services. It has unified multiple indirect taxes levied by the Centre and states, simplifying the tax structure and promoting economic efficiency.

The steady increase in GST collections is a testament to the government's efforts to strengthen the tax system and widen the tax base. The revenue generated from GST is shared between the Centre and states, providing a vital source of funding for public expenditure and development projects.

The economy is likely to continue growing, and therefore, the GST collections are likely to remain strong. This would give a boost to the government's revenue and allow it to pursue its development agenda.
