Good News for Rail Commuters! Fares Slashed on These Trains

 - Sakshi Post

New Delhi: Owing to the decreased occupancy, the Railway ministry has slashed the fares by up to 25 per cent on AC chair cars and executive classes of all trains including Vande Bharat trains.

The discounted train fares came into effect soon after the release of the Railway Board order. However, the passengers with reservation will not be refunded. The discount will apply on all trains having AC chair cars including Anubhuti and Vistadome coaches.

“The discount shall be implemented with immediate effect. However, no refund of fare shall be admissible for already booked passengers,” the Railway Board order stated.

The railways ministry is looking for optimising utilisation of accommodation and it has also decided to delegate powers to principal chief commercial managers of railway zones to introduce discounted fare schemes in trains with AC seating, the order said.

“This scheme shall be applicable in AC chair car and executive classes of all trains having AC seating accommodation, including Anubhuti and Vistadome coaches,” it added.

According to the Railway Board order, the element of discount shall be up to a maximum 25 per cent on the basic fare. Other charges like reservation charge, super fast surcharge, GST, etc, as applicable, shall be levied separately. The discount may be provided in any or all the classes on the basis of occupancy.

Most of the semi-high speed Vande Bharat trains are running with full occupancy, however, the officials said the discount on fares will be applicable to these trains as well. The discount fare scheme will be applicable for tickets booked up to preparation of the first chart and during current booking. The passengers on-boarded by the TTE may also be eligible for the discount in the train fare.
