Former Porn Actress Mia Khalifa's Tweet Supporting Indian Farmers Tops Twitter Trend

Joining Rihanna and Greta Thunberg was former ‘Adult film’ star Mia Khalifa. The porn star tweeted in support of the farmers. She shared a picture of the farmers protest happening in Delhi and expressed her shock over it.

"What in the human rights violations is going on?! They cut the internet around New Delhi?! #FarmersProtest," Mia Khalifa said in the caption of her post. She also shared a picture from the protests wherein a man was seen holding a placard that said, "Stop killing farmers!” read Khalifa’s tweet.

Mia Khalifa joined the list of international celebrities tweeting about the ongoing farmers protest. But it was not taken in a good way by Indians, who said these celebrities do not comment on matters they don’t know about.

International pop sensation Rihanna took to her Twitter handle and posted a screenshot of an article that spoke of internet supply being cut off during farmers' protests.

The screenshot was of an article on Farmers protest. It said that during the farmers protest in Delhi, internet supply was restricted. Rihanna tweeted the picture along with a caption reading, “why aren’t we talking about this?! #FarmersProtest.”

Similarly young climate activist Greta Thunberg posted regarding the farmers protest and said we stand in solidarity with them. "We stand in solidarity with #farmersprotest in India,” read the 18 year-old Swedish activist’s tweet.

What is it about?

The farmers have been protesting against the three farm laws that were passed in the Parliament, last year. The protest has been going on since early December. On 26 January, things became intense with the Tractor rally. Following the breaching of Red Fort and the chaos that engulfed, Delhi faced an internet restriction.

The internet services at the areas near Singhu, Ghazipur and Tikri of Delhi were restricted on 31st Jan. it was later announced that the suspension will continue till Wednesday.

People started reacting to Mia Khalifa's post just like they did for Rihanna and Thunberg. Many people appreciated the tweet and thanked her for speaking on behalf of the farmers. Along with appreciation, Khalifa was also bombarded with trolls.

Like what others faced, Mia was also lectured and told to stay out of matters that doesn’t concern her. One user criticized her and said, ‘if you do not have knowledge then stick to what you do best.’

This ended up with Mia Khalifa trending in the top list of Twitter trends. She even reacted to tweets calling her 'paid actor.' 

"Paid actors,” huh? Quite the casting director, I hope they’re not overlooked during awards season. I stand with the farmers," she replied to the hate tweets.
