Don't Share Photocopy Of Aadhaar With Any Firm: Govt Advisory
The central government has asked citizens to share masked copies of their Aadhaar cards in order to avoid misuse. In a press release that was issued on May 27th, the government cautioned against sharing a copy of the Aadhaar Card and said, "Do not share a photocopy of your Aadhaar with any organization as it can be misused. Alternatively, please use a masked Aadhaar which displays only the last four digits of your Aadhaar number." The notice was issued by the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
The government advisory says, "Please avoid using a public computer at an internet/cafe/kiosk to download e-Aadhaar. However, if you do so, please ensure that you delete all the downloaded copies of e-Aadhaar permanently from that computer. Only those organizations that have obtained a User License from the Unique Identification Authority of India can use Aadhaar for establishing the identity of a person. Unlicensed private entities like hotels or film halls are not permitted to collect or keep copies of the Aadhaar Card. It is an offence under the Aadhaar Act 2016. If a private entity demands to see your Aadhaar Card or seeks a photocopy of your Aadhaar Card, please verify that they have a valid User Licence from the UIDAI."
Know how to get masked Aadhaar:
A masked Aadhaar card can be downloaded from the official UIDAI website. Just enter the 12 digit Aadhaar card number and select the option of masked Aadhaar. Then download it.
