A Regional YouTube Village Cooking Channel has Received Diamond Play Button For Crossing 1 Crore Subscribers

For the first time in Tamil Nadu, YouTube's 'Village Cooking Channel' has received a diamond play button for surpassing 1 crore subscribers.

The creators contributed Rs 10 lakhs to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Public Relief Fund after reaching one crore subscribers to aid in the fight against Covid.

PUDUKKOTAI: A village Cooking Channel has surpassed one crore subscribers on YouTube, making it the first Tamil channel to do so. The creators earned the 'Diamond Play Button' from YouTube for attaining this milestone, which was launched in April 2018.

The channel is managed by a group of young people from Pudukkottai's Chinna Veeramangalam, who hails from a farming family. The channel is operated by Subramanian, Ayannar, Tamilselvan, Muthumanickam, and Murugesan (cousins), as well as their grandpa, Periyathambi, a caterer.

Giving back to the community is an important aspect of their ideology. Every dish they prepare while filming the videos serves at least 100 people. The food is subsequently donated to charitable organizations or to residents of the area where the video is being created.

"We always have been taught to give. That's why, when we crossed 1 crore subscribers, we wanted to do something good. We handed over a cheque of Rs 10 lakhs to Chief Minister MK Stalin. We hope that it helps people battling Covid. This donation is on behalf of all our viewers, who have showered us with love," said Ayyanar.

The creators also expressed gratitude to their audience for assisting them in reaching the milestone.

"Our viewers have helped us reach here. We feel so proud to be the first Tamil creators to get this diamond play button from YouTube. This is our collective victory," added Subramanian.

After getting the Diamond Play button, Thatha Periyathambi was the happiest. He claimed that after working as a caterer for numerous years, he had never gotten any acknowledgement. However, thanks to YouTube, everyone now refers to him as Thatha and compliments his cooking.

The video of Rahul Gandhi's appearance on the channel in February had a lot of views. Their simplicity and rural cooking are their selling points. They film their videos in and around Pudukkottai's beautiful fields. Nothing is ground by machine; everything is done by hand on the Ammi (stone grinder).
