Coronavirus Strain At Mt Everest After 17 Climbers Test Positive

 - Sakshi Post

The dangerous coronavirus is spreading like a wildfire. The deadly virus has not even spared the world's highest peak, Mount Everest. A total of 17 mountaineers from the Mount Everest base camp tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday. The first coronavirus case at the base camp was reported in late April this year. However, the Nepali government said that there are no infections in the Mount Everest base camp.

A Polish climber Pawel Michalski wrote last week that, "More than 30 people have already been evacuated to Kathmandu in helicopters with suspected pulmonary edema, later found to be positive for coronavirus."

A few days ago, Rojita Adhikari, a climber tested positive for COVID-19 and she had left the base camp on April 19. She took to her Twitter and tweeted, "The Nepal Government is still denying there is a Covid-19 outbreak at Everest base camp, despite emerging evidence. Why is the government hiding the truth?"
Adhikari told The Washington Post that, "At camp I saw many sick people. At a gorakshep (a small village that is the last stop on most treks to base camp) hotel, there were a few sick climbers isolating as well. I found Covid-19 is so common around the camp. They took it so easily."
Nepal's tourism department requires a negative Covid-19 test 72 hours before entering the country. Earlier, a seven day quarantine was required for the travellers who have visited Nepal, but in late March, the government removed it in order to revive the country's tourism sector.
