Buddhadeb Bhattacharya Sister-in-law Ira Basu Found On Footpath is Ph.D. in Virology?
Kolkata: Former Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya's sister-in-law Ira Basu was recently found by few locals, living on the street. She has been living on the footpath in West Bengal's Dunlop. It was discovered that she worked as a teacher for almost 34 years before life took a turn.
She has grey hair, wears a faded blue nightgown, and stays on the streets of Dunlop in the Barabazar area of the North 24 Paraganas district. She lives on food given to her by the street vendors and other passersby. Later Basu sleeps on the footpath itself. She was identified as the sister-in-law of former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya who was there in power for over 10 years.
As soon as she was identified, the West Bengal government sent Ira to the hospital for check-ups and basic treatment. The medical test results suggested that she was not mentally stable. It was not that serious but still something that requires medical attention.
WHO IS IRA BASU?
Ira is the cousin of Mira Bhattacharya. The Khardah municipality officials got the information about this after which its municipality executive officer Sushanta Mondal shared that Ira was admitted to the Lumbini Park Mental Hospital and they are praying for her wellbeing. The officials are constantly in touch with the hospital staff regarding her condition.
Basu holds a Ph.D. in virology and can speak Bengali and English really well. It was said that she was a teacher of life sciences at Priyanath Girls High School in North 24 Parganas for almost 34 years. Ira received offers from other institutes as well, but she decided to continue at the Girls' school. She retired from the job in 2009. It was said that she was a state-level athlete and played table tennis and cricket.
After retirement, she lived in Baranagar and later moved to the Lichu Bagan area in Khardah. Later she started living on the street and no one knows what happened exactly. Ira was asked to send all the required papers for her pension but she did not and the pension could never go through.
