Balakrishna and Anil Ravipudi have collaborated for a mass commercial entertainer which is titled as Bhagavanth Kesari. The film is releasing today ahead of Dasara festival. Will NBK and Anil Ravipudi deliver? Let's check out our review.

Story

Nelakonda Bhagavanth Kesari (Balakrishna) returns from jail. He turns caretaker-cum-father for Vijji (Sreeleela). Vijji affectionately calls Bhagavanth as Chicha. He wants Vijji to join the Army as he had promised to her late father. Vijji lands in trouble when she becomes entangled in a conspiracy involving a ruthless businessman named Rahul Sanghvi (Arjun Rampal). He has age-old rivalry with Bhagavanth. He takes Rahul Sanghvi head-on. The story revolves around the events that occurred between Rahul Sanghvi and Bhagavanth Kesari, and how their conflict ultimately reaches its conclusion. The film holds the answers to what transpired between them and how everything eventually unravels.

Analysis

Anil Ravipudi has ditched his usual style of comedy and he resorted to Balakrishna-style action drama which has full of masala. He presented Balayya in grey hair which suits his age. It worked in the film's favour. Though the story and twists suffer from predictability, it is the mass scenes and Thaman's background score that keep the momentum. Director Anil Ravipudi has played it to the galleries and he followed the formulaic narration of fight-song-sentiment and fight. The first half is largely banked upon the protagonist's characterisation and build-up. The pre-interval scene is where the exact conflict is revealed. There are a handful of twists imbibed into the story. Though they're guessable, they had worked due to the presentation. The interval bang brings some hope and hype.

The second-half is all about the hero vs villain. But the antagonist falters and couldn't leave any impact. The film has a message which touches upon sensitive topic like gender-equality, women empowerment and sentiment. Director Anil Ravipudi caters the film to masses and families. The fans may like Balakrishna's over-the-top action scenes, but the logic goes for a toss. Even action scenes hadn't worked as intended. It is all style and substance is weak. Anil Ravipudi tries somewhat Boyapati style. Sadly, Kajal Aggarwal's role is not so-appealing too. The songs failed to engage. The film's screenplay is flat. Overall, it is Balakrishna and Anil Ravipudi's package that works only in parts. Dialogues have pure mass touch and they work with fans. Overall, Bhagavanth Kesari is a commercial film which has a message without any logics.
