Heart Attack vs Cardiac Arrest: Know the Difference

 - Sakshi Post

In most cases, people learn that a person is suffering from heart pain and conclude it is a heart attack or cardiac arrest without knowing the differences. Medically, both are distinctly different. Though both are related to heart problems, they are caused by various reasons. Here are a few points that differentiate both heart problems.

A heart attack occurs when your vital blood supply is interrupted. Think of your heart as an engine and the blood vessels as the fuel pipes. If a pipe gets blocked, the engine suffers. That chest pain is a warning sign, but thank heavens, your heart keeps beating.

Cardiac arrest is different. This represents a situation wherein your heart stops working altogether. Heart failure can indeed lead to cardiac arrest; however, there are other reasons why cardiac arrest would occur. Lifestyle factors include bad diets and inactivity, which can stealthily damage the pipes in your heart.

Pay attention to the signals that your body is sending. If physical activity leaves you breathless or aching, talk to your doctor. They will be able to interpret these symptoms for you and refer you for a stress test or specialist care. Ignore that ache within you; it may be a heart attack. Act fast, dial for emergency help, and you may save a life.
