In a surprising turn of events, actress Shruti Haasan has opted out of the upcoming English film, 'Chennai Story.' This development comes shortly after Samantha Ruth Prabhu made a similar decision earlier to leave the project.

An adaptation of the 2004 novel 'The Arrangements of Love' by Timeri N. Murari, 'Chennai Story' was set to star Shruti Haasan and Viveik Kalra in the lead roles. Directed by English filmmaker Philip John, the romantic comedy followed the life of a Tamil bisexual detective, Anu, who tries to help a Welsh-Tamil man find his father.

According to sources close to Pinkvilla, Shruti Haasan had recently commenced filming the first schedule of 'Chennai Story,' and everything was progressing smoothly. However, the actress has now decided to walk away from the project for reasons that remain undisclosed.

"Shruti had just begun the initial filming of Chennai Story, and everything was going smoothly. But now, she has left the project for reasons known only to her," the source revealed.

The film's initial casting announcement featured Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the lead role, but the actress later parted ways with the project. Shruti Haasan was subsequently brought on board to replace her in her second English film after the 2023 release, 'The Eye,' alongside Mark Rowley.

With Shruti Haasan's exit, the makers of 'Chennai Story' are now faced with the task of finding a replacement for the lead role. The film's future remains uncertain, as two of the most successful leading ladies in Tamil cinema have decided to step away from the project.
