Google Doodle On Kollywood Actor Sivaji Ganesan's Birth Anniversary

Google Doodle: On Friday, October 1, the late actor Sivaji Ganesan celebrates his 93rd birthday, and Google has created a Doodle in his honour. The Doodle was designed by Noopur Rajesh Choksi, a Bengaluru-based artist, according to Google.

Ganesan was born as Ganesamoorthy on October 1, 1928, in Villupuram, Madras Presidency (modern-day Tamil Nadu) in British India. He left his family at the age of seven to join a theatre troupe. Ganesamoorthy played Maratha ruler Shivaji in the drama "Shivaji Kanda Hindu Rajyam" in December 1945. Ganesamoorthy got the title "Sivaji" as a result of his famous performance, and he was known by that name for the rest of his life.

He starred in almost 300 films, including Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi. However, he was best known for his work in Tamil cinema, where he made his debut in 1952's "Parasakthi." He was the first Indian actor to receive a Best Actor award at an international film festival (Afro-Asian Film Festival in Cairo, Egypt) for his performance in 1960's "Veerapandiya Kattabomman." He had a career spanning nearly five decades and won numerous accolades.

The Los Angeles Times dubbed Ganesan, who also dabbled in politics, the "Marlon Brando of south India's film industry." At the age of 72, he died on July 21, 2001.
