Watch: Dome of Jakarta Grand Mosque Collapses in Major Fire
Jakarta: The giant dome of Jakarta Islamic Centre Mosque in Indonesia destroyed in a massive fire accident on Wednesday. However, there are no reports of any casualty in the fire mishap.
The fire broke out at 3 pm local time as the renovation work was being carried out in the Jakarta Islamic Centre Grand Mosque. According to local media reports, after receiving a call, the fire department immediately pressed into ten fire engines to douse the raging fire.
Several netizens have shared the visuals of a major fire engulfing the huge dome of the mosque As per reports, the police are investigating the cause of the fire and the contractors have been questioned as part of the initial probe.
The dome of the mosque had caught fire in Oct. 2002 too. It took five hours for the firefighters to extinguish it. The Islamic Centre also houses education, commercial and research facilities besides the mosque.
