Close Shave for Passengers as AI Express Plane Catches Fire at Muscat Airport
New Delhi: Passengers of Kochi-bound Air India Express had a narrow escape on Wednesday as airport crew noticed fire in one of the engines just before take-off at Muscat International airport in Oman.
As per initial reports, all crew and 145 passengers, four of them infants, on the Air India Express plane were evacuated using the slides after the smoke coming out of the plane was noticed. The aircraft was getting ready to leave the Muscat airport.
No injuries have been reported. However, the Times of Oman reported that at least 14 persons were injured in the incident.
The aircraft was immediately shifted to the terminal building. "Relief flight will be organised," said a statement by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
