Electric Car Race, Formula E World Championship in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: Hyderabad is in the running to host the Formula E world championship, which is a race for electric cars. Due to the suggestion of industries and IT minister K. T. Rama Rao, the city will join the elite club of New York, London, Berlin, Rome, and Seoul, which have already hosted the event. The Federation Internationale de Automobile hosts an annual race for the best environmentally friendly automobiles.
On Monday, the state government, Formula E Association, and Greenko, a renowned alternative energy provider, will sign a tripartite agreement to make Hyderabad a potential host city for Formula E event on a yearly basis.
Anand Mahindra, whose team is currently competing in the race, took the initiative to get India into the Formula E circuit, recommending metros such as New Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru in addition to Hyderabad, according to sources. "The Formula E representatives in India focused down on Hyderabad and given in principle consent after completing field trips to all locations," sources added.
The thing about Formula E is that, unlike Formula 1, there will be no need to construct a separate track; instead, the racing will take place on city roads. The Hussainsagar circle of Tank Bund and Necklace road, the circular route encircling KBR Park in Jubilee Hills, and the financial district road in Gachibowli have all been visited by the crew. A final decision could be made on Monday," shared the sources.
The state government will serve as a facilitator, with infrastructure improvement being its primary job. They will be responsible for other logistics.
