EC Asks Telangana Govt To Suspend Distribution Of Money For Flood-Hit Till GHMC Polls
The Telangana government announced financial assistance to flood-hit families in GHMC and surrounding municipalities. To collect the amount of Rs 10,000, hundreds of residents were seen standing in a queue at the MeeSeva Centres spread across the cities. Despite waiting for hours, people had to return home empty-handed on Wednesday. They stated that their applications for financial aid were rejected by the MeeSeva Centers because of the imposition of Model Code of Conduct coming into force.
There were long queues in front of all the MeeSeva Centres from the morning after the news went around that, the money would be credited directly into their bank accounts instead of giving directly. People thronged MeeSeva Centres and police being forced to control the traffic in several areas. Minor fights were also reported at some places.
There were some claims that the BJP leaders had complained to the Election Commission (EC) about the distribution of money. The State Election Commission (SEC) then asked the government to stop distribution of the flood aid till the GHMC elections are over.
Malakpet, Kapra, Uppal, Banjara Hills, Madhura Nagar and other MeeSeva Centres were crowded by people standing in queues holding their Aadhaar cards since wee hours. At a few MeeSeva Centres, people raised slogans demanding that their applications be processed.
